RENOVATE WINDOWS AND BALCONIES
RENOVATE WINDOWS AND BALCONIES
Replacing windows and/or balcony doors with more efficient ones is part of the actions that improve energy efficiency, and therefore, also the energy rehabilitation that is being promoted by the administration and by Europe through the Next Generation funds.
The energy savings from changing the windows are considerable, because several important issues are resolved: the window is improved with its perimeter rubber seals between the glass and the profile, and the silicone seals on the outside, between the profile and the work, are also renewed, improving the tightness and avoiding energy leaks.
There are several types of windows on the market: aluminium, PVC (polyvinyl chloride), wood and iron windows, which are complemented by glazing, neoprene seals and fittings.
To measure the quality of windows there are several parameters to take into account:
- The material (already mentioned)
- The thickness of the profiles that make up the window
- The quality of the window finish (lacquered, anodized, varnished, enameled, etc.)
- The type of glazing (insulating glass with or without gas in the air chamber between the panes, the thickness of the panes and their special properties)
- The quality and location of rubbers in carpentry
- The quality of the hardware (handles, hinges, lifting systems, bearings, etc.)
The best value for money is aluminium or PVC, due to its durability and minimal maintenance and the intrinsic properties of PVC. Currently, PVC is the most economical of the options.
Wood and iron are more expensive options. Wood requires regular maintenance and the cost of iron is now high. Obviously, the aesthetic possibilities are better with these materials.
The wood gives warmth to the environment, and the iron gives the environment a decorative feature of the industrial style.
