Solar Panel Installations at Home

Since April 5, 2019, RD 244/2019 was approved, which sets out the necessary conditions for private (domestic) installations for self-consumption with solar panels at home .

This type of installation meets the 3 criteria necessary to meet the requirements for solar panel subsidies. Criteria that we apply in all our full renovationss and installations:

Criteria:

  • Environmental (green construction)
  • Energy efficiency (bioclimatic)
  • Healthiness (biohabitability)

Solar Panels at Home, Tax-Exempt

Solar panel installations at home are completely EXEMPT from paying taxes and solar panel installations are permitted in communities of owners, simplifying administrative and technical procedures greatly. In addition, the “rental of roofs and terraces” is permitted so that third parties can obtain clean electricity.

Obviously, to install solar panels in a community of owners, the community's permission will be required. For this, 1/3 of the total participation fees (34%) will be required so that the community can install solar panels on its roof or terrace.

Subsidies for solar panels are intended for those homes that wish to self-consume part or all of the energy they consume. Subsidies for solar panels can reach up to 50% of the total installation.

The cost of installing solar panels without a subsidy can range between €5,000 and €7,000 (50% can be obtained from solar panel subsidies).

The amortization of this investment can be recovered in approximately 5 years, with an approximate cost of €180/year of maintenance to achieve optimal performance of the panels. The guarantees on solar panels are approximately 25 years.

An example of a standard, detailed and indicative budget for installing solar panels would be:

  • Solar panels cost around €120-150 per unit
  • The system for fastening the plates to the roof or terrace costs €50-60 per unit
  • The inverter with an approximate cost of €650-750 per unit
  • The electrical material and necessary protections cost approximately €500-600
  • The labor of a couple (about 50 hours) at a cost of approximately €1000
  • The project, the building permit, the legalisation and the registration in the Registry of self-consumption facilities around €1,100-1,500

The option of installing solar panels at home improves the holistic concept of “health”, which includes human health, animal health and environmental health as the only effective approach to stop future pandemics and at the same time contribute to the major environmental challenges we have to face.

To do this you will need:

1.- Abandon the development model focused on the aggregate growth of the Gross Domestic Product, differentiating the productive sectors that can grow and need investment (for example, essential public sectors such as energy, education, health and sustainable materials), from other sectors that will decrease due to their unsustainability, especially those associated with the use of fossil or nuclear fuels, mining and non-essential consumer goods.

2.- Prioritise proximity and make it a reality, favouring short supply chains. For example, distributed or decentralised generation of electricity is a fundamental part of a Smart City. It consists of generating electricity through many small generation sources that are installed close to consumption points.

3.- Abandon fossil fuels and promote a rapid and fair transition towards fully renewable energy , which allows the use of a common good, such as solar or wind energy, so that the wealth generated by harnessing, transforming and using it has an impact on the well-being of the entire society and, especially, of the people who live in the territories close to the uses and, in no case, the use of energy is done with the criteria of the extractive economy that has practiced productivism.
